Soweto’s Kasi Hero Foundation changes lives one at a time
Kasi Hero Foundation’s Tankiso Joseph Moremi and Ndivhuwo Liphadzi founded the organisation in 2020 to make a change in their communities.
Based in Pimville Zone 9, the Foundation provides meals and food relief; donates normal and specialised wheelchairs, sanitary towels, school shoes and uniforms amongst others. The foundations is working on establishing an after-school program that will offer extra classes, sports and art for children.
“The inspiration came after seeing how COVID-19 and it’s restrictions negatively impacted families in and around our community. Most were struggling to make ends meet and remember this was at a time where schools were closed. Which meant that most children were now not getting the meal they normally get at school and for some that was the only meal they rely on. Most parents are unemployed therefore we started a soup kitchen to provide meals for these children,” Kasi Hero’s co-founder, Tankiso Moremi told Southern Gauteng News.
The foundation’s soup kitchen has grown from providing meals once a week to 5 days thanks to well-wishers.
“Our biggest challenge remains funding as we rely on donations to keep our organisation running and continue providing services to our community. My biggest motivation is seeing the smiles on the faces of those we assist and actually remembering that I was once in their situation and now I’m now able to make a difference,” Moremi added.
Kasi Hero Foundation’s biggest achievement was to expand the number of days they provide meals and getting a team of 11 young people who are passionate about making a difference. In 2022, Moremi was chosen as the Trailblazer of the Year by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), the same year he was announced as the young Mandela’s of the future by News24 and they also received a donation of a bakkie from Old Mutual Insure.
“Thanks to everyone on Twitter for their amazing support. We thank Boxer Stores; Old Mutual Insure; Credit Guarantee Insurance; Cemobility; Hollywood Bets Foundation; Imbumba Foundation; Angel Network; Collen Mashawana Foundation; BiPhakathi and everyone who has contributed to the organisation. Heartfelt thanks to the Kasi Hero Foundation team, the amazing ladies who prepare delicious meals for children on a daily basis and to our directors, Ndivhuwo Liphadzi, Silas Mabunda and Stella Sitho,” Moremi concluded.
