Suspect nabbed in possession of suspected stolen cable in Meadowlands

A male suspect was arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) IIOC Undercover Reaction Unit for the possession of suspected stolen property in Meadowlands, Soweto on Saturday, 13 May.

JMPD officers received information regarding a suspected stolen electricity cable in the area, officers were deployed to the given address and upon their arrival at the said location a male was found inside the premises.

The officers proceeded to search the property and an electricity cable was found in the yard. The male was questioned about the cable found in his premises, and he alleged that he is a City Power subcontractor, he further alluded that his wife is a City Power employee and she is well aware of the cable in their premises.

The suspect was requested to contact his wife regarding the matter, but she failed to show up.

“The suspect, a Malawian national was arrested and detained at Meadowlands SAPS where a case docket was opened for further investigation.City Power officials were contacted to verify the cable. It was discovered that the roughly 130 meters long cable belongs to City Power and it is worth approximately R76 500,” said JMPD spokesperson, Xolani Fihla.
