Rich, hearty and oh-so comforting. This classic stew is loaded with tender beef and loads of vegetables, and it’s perfect with a side of steamed bread.

1kg beef stewing beef
1L beef stock
½ packet (500g) PnP potjie mix
1 packet (55g) PnP soup in a mug beef and vegetable flavouredSalt and milled pepper
Heat oil in a pot over medium heat.
Tip in beef and fry until browned (cook meat in batches to avoid overcrowding the pot).
Pour in beef stock and stir.
Add potjie mix and top up with water if needed (making sure meat and veggies are covered).
Cover with a lid and simmer for 30–35 minutes.
Mix soup with half a cup of water to make a slurry.
Stir into beef stew and cook uncovered for another 15 minutes, until sauce has thickened.
Serve with steamed bread.
