Male arrested for operating an illegal drug laboratory in Johannesburg
A 29-year-old man will appear in the Germiston Regional Court on Monday, 10 July for a charge of operating an illegal drug laboratory on 5th Ave at Primrose, Johannesburg.
He was arrested on Saturday, 8 July by the members of the East Rand K9 unit who were patrolling along 5th Ave at Primrose when they spotted a man who acted suspiciously upon seeing the police. He ran to the house and police jumped into action, chased and apprehended him next to the garage.
They allegedly found in his possession a packet of a substance suspected to be drugs, then proceeded to search inside the house. More white substance suspected to be drugs (meth) along with scales, chemicals and other precursors to manufacture drugs were also found in the premises.
The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in Germiston were called to the scene together with Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) of the South African Police Service. The case was referred to the Hawks for further investigation.
Major General Ebrahim Kadwa, the Provincial Head of the Hawks in Gauteng applauded the vigilance of the police which led to the arrest and uncovered the drug laboratory.
