Motorist arrested for culpable homicide and hit & run in Braamfischerville

One male motorist was arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Operations officers for culpable homicide and failing to stop at an accident scene in Braamfisherville.

On Saturday evening, 15 July 2023, while patrolling in the Roodepoort CBD officers spotted a white Volkswagen Polo with a shattered windscreen.

The officers stopped the vehicle with two occupants and asked why the windscreen was shattered. The driver, who is the son of the passenger claimed that the community of Jabulani, Soweto had stoned their vehicle. The officers further noticed a big dent in the bonnet of the vehicle.

The driver was further interrogated and he conceded that he knocked down a pedestrian at Elias Motsoaledi Road next to the Engen filling station in Braamfisherville.

The officers escorted the motorist back to the scene and indeed they found a male pedestrian who was lying deceased in the middle of the road.

The motorist was arrested and detained at Dobsonville SAPS. He is due to appear in court during the week.
