Police’s swift response foils a business robbery and leads to seven suspects arrested

The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has applauded the police in Jeppe for foiling a business robbery and arresting seven suspects.

On 4 August 2023, the police followed up on information about a group of suspects planning to commit a business robbery at Benrose. The vehicle with the description given was spotted and when the police approached, the suspects started shooting.

The members retaliated and managed to corner the suspects at Main Reef Street and Daniel Street in Benrose. Five of the suspects were arrested from a microbus while the other two were in a Toyota Etios. No injuries were reported and both vehicles including three firearms with filed off serial numbers and ammunition were seized.

All seven suspects are expected to appear in court soon on charges of conspiracy to commit a business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
