On the night of Monday, 18 September, the police seized an AK47 riffle and undisclosed amount of dye stained cash subsequent to the arrest of a 28-year-old man in Vlakfontein at Lenasia South.
It is reported that, the members from K9 Sedibeng, Rapid Response Soweto and Anti-Gang Unit operationalised information about a man suspected to be involved in robberies and also in possession of a firearm at certain house.
Upon searching the premises, the rifle with rounds and magazine was found hidden under the mattress and few bank notes with dye stains were found in his possession. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was currently out on bail on a different case of Delmas.
He was arrested and is expected to appear before a magistrates’ court soon on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition including dye-stained bank notes.
