WineX promises three nights of indulgence and exploration
Vino connoisseurs can look forward to three nights of tastings and interactions with award-winning winemakers as the best of the Cape jets to Joburg for the Southern Hemisphere’s largest and most vibrant wine festival, sponsored by Standard Bank Private.
Over 150 exhibitors, including award-winning winemakers, will converge at the Sandton Convention Centre in northern Joburg between Wednesday, 25 and Friday 27 October to offer tastings of a vast array of wines, champagnes, Cap Classique’s, ports, and pot-still brandies.
This impressive lineup showcases the who’s who of the South African wine scene and presents a unique opportunity to savour the finest libations. In addition to the line-up of over 800 exquisite wines, the festival will also feature specialty meats, olives, cheese, and chocolates. Attendees can also enjoy light meals or wholesome snacks between tastings, creating a perfect balance of flavours.
The organisers say the renowned WineX aims to create new stories and great memories among like-minded wine enthusiasts.
Michael Fridjhon, WineX Show Director, is delighted with the new relationship with Standard Bank Private. “The commitment from Standard Bank Private to partner with our wine producers and to provide our wine industry with a platform to engage with consumers around one of the country’s best and biggest exports is just the news we need to raise our spirits,” Fridjhon says.
He adds that South Africa’s wine industry is a national flag-bearer, spreading the message of Cape Craft to wine enthusiasts worldwide. It also acts as a powerful magnet, attracting tourists from Europe, Asia, and the Americas to the country’s picturesque winelands.
In a time marked by economic challenges, Lindy-Lou Alexander, Head of Marketing for Personal and Private Banking South Africa at Standard Bank, says WineX will deliver three nights of laid-back mingling and extraordinary taste sensations. “During turbulent times, when everyone is trying to keep up with day-to-day demands, it’s important to take a moment to pursue our passions and make new connections over a shared interest,” says Alexander.
The WineX Festival, with a history dating back almost 50 years, now draws a wine-savvy crowd of up to 10,000 attendees in Gauteng and hosts regional shows across the country. The event has become a cultural staple, celebrating the rich heritage of South African wine.
Recognising the significance of skills development in the hospitality sector, Standard Bank Private and WineX will sponsor a specialised training course in collaboration with the Cape Wine Academy.
This initiative aims to transform industry servers into proficient wine waiters or sommeliers, promoting inclusivity within the local wine industry.
For Joburgers eager to explore the world of wines further, the Standard Bank UCount Wine of the Month Club (ucount.standardbank.co.za) offers an enticing opportunity. Local aficionados curate the finest South African wines at affordable prices, allowing reward members to earn 2% back in reward points when shopping online.
