Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Social Crime Prevention Unit (SCPU) Officers rolled out learner transport and driver fitness inspections
On 10 October at about 07:00, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Social Crime Prevention Unit (SCPU) Officers rolled out learner transport and driver fitness inspections, at Bafo-Chiko Primary School in the Daveyton area.
With schools reopened for the last term of the year, learner safety remains a top priority for the EMPD. Officers conducted an operation on vehicle and driver fitness, to check compliance with the National Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) requirements.
There have been a number of complaints from concerned members of the public, regarding the behaviour of scholar transport drivers. The EMPD saw it fit to conduct these operations throughout the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE), to address these concerns.
Officers issued several written notices for violations such as overloaded passengers, unlicensed minibus vehicles and drivers failing to be in possession of valid Professional Driving Permits. Operations of this nature will be conducted throughout the CoE.
The EMPD encourages parents to make sure their children are placed in roadworthy scholar transports.
