Illegal mining equipment has been seized illegal mining shafts are being closed in the West Rand District

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, joined by the West Rand District Executive Mayor Thabiso Bovungana, is leading Operation Shanela forces through illegal mining hotspots in the West Rand District. 

So far 31 undocumented persons, also facing charges related to illegal mining have been arrested.
