The EMPD SCPU continue road safety awareness activations this Transport Month in the Benoni and Duduza areas
Between Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 October from 8am to 2pm, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Social Crime Prevention Unit (SCPU) Officers, continued to roll out road safety awareness activations in the Benoni and Duduza taxi ranks, for Transport Month.
The EMPD intensified their road safety awareness campaign aimed at bringing about change in driver behavior, on public roads to help curb road fatalities at the Benoni and Duduza taxi ranks this Transport Month. This campaign allowed Officers to engage taxi owners and drivers, to spread the message of road safety for public transport.
Commuters also had the opportunity, to share some of the challenges they face when using public transport during rainy days. Furthermore, at Benoni West Primary and Barcelona Primary Schools, Officers continued with scholar transport and driver fitness operations.
Scholar patrol training was conducted to equip learners with the knowledge, of how to ensure road safety rules are practiced by fellow learners. Written notices were also issued to transgressors, who failed to comply with the National Road Traffic Act (Act 93 of 1996) requirements.
