Suspect arrested in possession of dagga to the street value of more than half a million rand
A 33-year-old male suspect was arrested by members of the Detectives’ Specialized Unit from Ermelo after founding him in possession of dagga to the street value of more than half a million rand on Tuesday, 5 December.
According to the report, police received information from members of the public about a vehicle that was coming from the borderline of the Kingdom of Eswatini towards Lothair direction. Further details outlined that the car was loaded with bags of dagga.
The information was then followed and soon, the vehicle was spotted. When the driver of the said car noticed the SAPS members, he sped off. This was followed by a high speed chase. In the process, the driver abandoned the vehicle then ran on foot but the astute members caught up with him.
Thereafter a search on the car was conducted where about 16 bags full of dagga, weighing at about 600 kilograms to the estimated street value of around R800 000 were discovered inside the car.
He appeared at the Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court today, Wednesday 6 December and the case was postponed to 11 December for a formal bail application meanwhile he remained in custody.
