Cape Town initiates destruction of drugs valued at R90 million rand

The destruction of R90 million worth of drugs is underway in Cape Town. These are drugs that were collected during policing operations in the Eastern and Western Cape.

This is the fourth drug destruction in this financial year, the most recent one was in Gauteng in October where R800 million worth of drugs were destroyed.

Some of the drugs being destroyed consists of tik, cocaine and mandrax. All drugs confiscated by SAPS during operations are subjected to forensic testing regularly by the SAPS Forensic Science Laboratory: Chemistry Section.

These drug exhibit materials that were destroyed today were done so after a thorough process that followed the conclusion of a court order, confirming the finalisation of cases.
