Rapist handed 20 years’ imprisonment for raping then 14-year-old and impregnating her 

A 52-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years’ in prison for raping his daughter’s then 14-year-old friend and impregnating her. 

On Tuesday 1 November 2022, the social worker handling the victim’s case since she was under foster care, reportedly visited the Bloemspruit Police to report a case of rape. 

This follows the victim’s failure to attend school, which led to teachers doing follow-up about the victim’s whereabouts and why she was not attending school. The teachers discovered that the victim had been raped by her friend’s father on 10 August 2022 and as a result, she was two months pregnant.

The victim’s ordeal was then reported accordingly. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested by the Mangaung Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit, with Detective Sergeant Katleho Pheko assigned to investigate the case further. 

Thanks to Sergeant Pheko’s unending efforts put into the case for over a year, on 8 February the accused was found guilty of rape and sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment by the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court. His name will also be recorded in the National Register for Sexual Offenders. The victim is still at the place of safety.
