Operation Vala Umgodi is yielding positive results in Gauteng

Those who are involved in illegal mining activities are feeling the presence of Operation Vala Umgodi as more and more suspects are being arrested and illegal mines are dismantled and closed down in Gauteng.

The multidisciplinary forces that include South African Police Service and South African National Defence Force, joined by other law enforcement agencies, stormed into Primrose, Ekurhuleni District on Monday 19 February, and dismantled an illegal mining operation.

Thirty-seven undocumented foreign nationals who are also suspected to be illegal miners were arrested. Police also recovered an unlicensed firearm and ammunition from one of the suspects. Another suspect was found in possession of drugs.Police confiscated various tools used for illegal mining.
