Benoni Flying Squad arrest two suspects for possession of suspected stolen copper cables

On Monday 19 February, Benoni Flying Squad members arrested two suspects and recovered suspected stolen copper cable worth approximately R60 000-00.

At around 07:30, members were conducting patrols on R23/High Road, Kempton Park when they pulled over a truck with two occupants inside. Upon inspection, members discovered four bags of copper cable hidden underneath scrap tin cans in the truck.

The suspects could not give an explanation for the copper and were immediately arrested. The driver of the truck then handed a member R10 000-00 in cash for their release which further added a charge of bribery to his arrest.

Benoni Flying Squad Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Tali Lukhele, commends the members for the sterling work and showing criminals that bribery will not be tolerated.

Investigation continues. The suspects aged 42 and 47 years old will be appearing in the Kempton Park Magistrates’ court facing charges of possession of suspected stolen property and bribery.
